Sandhills pride ourselves on being an inclusive school. We welcome all children and value the contribution that they make to our school.
We aim to create an environment in which every child can become confident, secure, caring individuals who achieve personal success. Staff, pupils, families and governors work together to create an inclusive community by promoting positive relationships, setting high expectations and high quality teaching.
Sandhills embraces the fact that every child is different and therefore recognises the needs of every child are different.
A child has special educational needs if he or she has learning difficulties that call for special educational provision to be made.
A child has learning difficulties if he or she:
- Has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age.
- Has a disability which prevents or hinders the child from making use of educational facilities of a kind provided for children of the same age in other schools within the Local Authority. (Taken from section 20 of the Children and Families Act 2014).
If you have concerns about your child's progress, please speak to your child's class teacher. If you still have ongoing concerns and would like to discuss your child’s special educational needs, you may wish to speak to a member of the Inclusion & SEND team.
We aim to work closely with parents and carers and we know that this teamwork brings the best results for the child. Our staff receive regular training in all areas of special needs and we bring in the support from a range of external educational specialists as required.
Our special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) is Mr. Tom Harper
