Personal Development

At Sandhills Primary School we aim to develop and nurture pupils, enabling them to flourish and be ready for life-long learning.

We aim to support all children to develop their social awareness; strength of character and their understanding of how they can make a positive impact on their school and wider community. We aim to prepare our children for the wider world so that they can have a strong sense of purpose and belonging, and so that they have the confidence to make their voices heard.

Personal Development at Sandhills extends beyond our curriculum. Enrichment experiences are carefully planned to broaden pupils’ horizons and enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities. We also offer a range of opportunities for our pupils to develop their talents and interests through extra curricular activities in school.

Personal development at Sandhills enables all pupils to develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally.

Values

Our values are part of everything that we do. Values are discussed in assemblies, during lessons and throughout the school day by staff and pupils in school. Evidence of our values in action are celebrated through class ‘Values Jars’ and in whole school assemblies where ‘Values Champions’, children who have demonstrated our values over and above our usual expectations, are celebrated.

Zones of regulation - Regulation is something that everyone continually works on. We follow the Zones of Regulation, a proactive skills based programme to support pupils to recognise when they are becoming less regulated and learn what they can do to manage their feelings and regulate themselves. Zones is a simple common language and teaching follows a systematic framework with a developmental sequence of lessons that are adapted to suit the needs of our pupils.

Core Texts - Texts to support learning in our curriculum have been carefully selected so that the children see themselves and others in our community, but also introduce them to characters, settings and stories that reflect the  full diversity of the society in which we live.
